Disaster Happens–Is Your Family Ready?

Managing Parenting In Your Busy Schedule

Managing Parenting In Your Busy Schedule
By Nigel Lane

The cost of living, particularly for families, can be extremely high these days. Many parents are driven into working two or more jobs simply to make ends meet. Both the mother and the father are working; the children are either left with grandparents or with other carers. A normal working day can involve up to approximately 12-14 hours. All this just to make ends meet.

Due to the busy schedules parents need to have, their children can feel neglected and miss developing a relationship with their children. In an ideal world to bring up a child well, the child requires love and attention from both its parents, more so the mother. Children need discipline. Without discipline you can be sure that your child is going to be one spoilt brat! Working parents need to learn to prioritize their activities. When working parents do arrive home it is essential to spend quality time with your children. It has been written that no one, on their bed, wishes they spent more time at the office.

I recommend that working mothers and fathers set time aside daily to spend with their kids. During that time, it is important that they do fun activities or spend time talking about how their children's day was. Remember to connect with your kids during this time, tell them a little about your day but make sure this time is about getting to know what they did more than you telling them about your boring work day. However tired you maybe, do not miss out on this time.

Plan your weekends in such away that you get to spend time with your children at their games or take them out for the weekend. To build a relationship with your child, the foundation needs to be laid in the early years. Hence spend all the free time you can, in getting to know your child better. Family vacations are an ideal time to this.

Even though you do not spend all your days with your children, don't forget to discipline of them whenever they do something wrong. It is often tempting to be easy on your children because you feel guilty not spending more time with them however, disciplining your children will help to shape them into better individuals.

Cleaning Your Child's Bedroom the Fun Way

Cleaning Your Child's Bedroom the Fun Way
By Shauna Hanus

Children and clean are not usually used in the same sentence. Most children love to play, love to have fun and hate to clean. So when it comes time to cleaning their bedroom parents are often left holding the bag.

Why not stop the fighting, stop the nagging and make bedroom cleaning time more fun. Try these three simple tricks and you may find that your child's bedroom is clean more often than not.

First Tip/Trick:

Make a photo log of a clean bedroom. Help your child clean the bedroom so that he knows what a clean bedroom looks like. Then take lots of pictures of the room. You can hang the photos around your child's bedroom so that there is always an easy reference as to what clean really means.

Children will both like taking the pictures and trying to keep the bedroom looking as clean as in the photo. This is an easy trick to a clean child's bedroom.

Second Tip/Trick:

Make it a race against time. Take a kitchen timer and set the time for someplace between three and ten minutes. Then turn your child loose cleaning. Your child will race to try and beat the buzzer.

You can add a small incentive of a prize or a special outing if your child beats the timer. Just remember that the goal is a clean bedroom and you do not want to be stuck having to bribe your child with a prize every time you want a clean room.

Third Tip/Trick:

Money, Money, Money. Hide coins around the room in and under items that need to be put away. Then your child has to try and find the coins while the bedroom is getting cleaned.

Be sure to let your child know that the rule is any item they touch while looking for money has to be put away where it belongs.

You may find that if you hide enough money for your child to end up with a dollar at the end of cleaning this is a plus. You can then go to a dollar store and let your child spend the money or make a special savings spot where money can be saved for a big purchase down the road.

Just remember when it comes to cleaning a child's bedroom fun is the name of the game.
